Farmer’s Market

I love it when a plan comes together.

I haven’t been to a farmer’s market in ages. But, since I have two big meals to prepare this weekend, I thought I had better hop on over to the South Pasadena Farmer’s Market so that I could pick up a few things. Honestly, I just had no idea where I was going to find this stuff, but fortunately I found everything and more.

I especially loved the Greek purveyors. One of the people was particularly friendly and gave me an opportunity to taste whatever I wanted to try. I got some Kalamata olives and a couple of different kinds of cheese for pizza-making on Saturday night. Strong, vibrant flavors that will go well with a Shiraz. (Excited, Amy? ;-) )

The other thing I was on the hunt for was a good bunch of rosemary sprigs. On Monday I am going to prepare some tenderloin medallions, and I wanted to skewer them with rosemary sprigs. The only problem is that our rosemary bush at home is dried out like an old Christmas tree, and the new bush we have would be down to a stump if I took off as many as I need. Fortunately, one of the stands had plenty of fresh rosemary sprigs, as well as thyme and sage. So that will be perfect for the meats I am preparing on Monday.

One thing I’m a sucker for is farmer’s market honey. It’s raw and full of flavor. So this time I actually sprung for some orange blossom honey. The flavors are sweet and bright, and the fragrance of orange blossoms comes through. Great stuff.

I’m going to have to do this again sometime!
